Chiastolite is Al₂SiO₅ before it is a story. The lattice is orthorhombic, Mohs 7–7.5, and the eye meets black, white.
The better pieces still come out of the ground in Spain, Australia. Graphite pushed aside as the crystal grew draws a dark cross on the sawn face.
The parlour tradition ties Chiastolite to earth and to the root centre. The old site stood it near: Scorpio, Capricorn.
