Aquamarine is Be₃Al₂Si₆O₁₈ before it is a story. The lattice is hexagonal, Mohs 7.5–8, and the eye meets blue.
The better pieces still come out of the ground in Brazil, Kenya, Nigeria, Madagascar, Zambia. Sailors pocketed this beryl because the name already promised the sea, and March still claims it.
The parlour tradition ties Aquamarine to water and to the throat centre. The old site stood it near: Pisces, Gemini, Aries, Libra, Taurus. Old tables sit it beside March, October.
A hard stone survives a daily ring, yet two diamonds in one box will scratch each other. Warm water and a soft cloth are enough.
